My professional backgrounD

I am a well-rounded Human Resources professional with over 30 years of experience in California.  I have worked for Interstate Hotels, Starwood Hotels and Marriott International in a progressive HR career.  Most recently, I led the HR team for RAR Hospitality based in San Diego, California.  I opened my own Consulting Business in July 2020 and have been growing and thriving ever since.

My HR philosophy focuses on a few core items.  First is leadership development.  If leaders at all levels are effective, efficient, and genuinely thoughtful about the employee experience then you will have great employee engagement that will drive business results.  Next is consistent compliance.  Whether compliance to an internal company policy or a legally mandated rule – following it consistently all the time with all employees, documenting your process along the way is one of the strongest management practices you can have.  Finally, ensuring all employees in your company achieve their results ethically is particularly important.  This cultural component is driven from the top down. 

Having transparent communications, setting goals and expectations, and holding everyone accountable will create a culture where shortcuts, misleading data and outright cheating are minimized.

Led the development and execution of a detailed and extensive COVID-19 reopening plan for all Hostmark Hospitality Group locations during the transition of RAR Hospitality acquired by Hostmark in March 2020.

DEVELOPED IT.

I support leaders in creating individualized Leadership Personal Development Plans resulting in improved performance and career growth.  In 2018, I developed a Leadership Excellence comprehensive tool kit for the Marriott International Western Region HR leaders. Plan was implemented in San Diego/CA Desert/Las Vegas Market resulting in a Leadership Index score year-over-year improvement.

Created an effective and site supportive HR structure for RAR Hospitality including; policies, progressive discipline, a total compensation strategy, Worker’s Compensation reform, compliance audits with improved processes, GM training and authored a new CSR to build a sense of community service and giving back called, “Do Good”.

In a 16-year career with Marriott International, I led multiple teams both on-site and in a regional capacity supporting up to 5,000 associates.  I was the recipient of several awards including Leadership in Human Resources (2009 & 2016), Spirit to Serve (2007), Department of the Year and Manager of the Year (2007).

I was the Los Angeles Strike Task Force HR Leader in 2018 for Marriott International as they experienced multi-location strikes simultaneously in multiple cities across the country.  Additionally, I have assisted in multiple labor activities from training leaders to prevent 3rd party representation, union campaigns and location strikes.

In 2017, I led the Human Resources efforts in the acquisition of the Bacara Santa Barbara and transitioned 600 employees to become the Ladies and Gentlemen of The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara.  I have spearheaded or been a member of multiple acquisition and divestiture teams both Marriott International and RAR Hospitality.

For Marriott International’s Western Region, I created and implemented innovative associate feedback session processes with structured action plan follow-up for hotel leadership.  As a part of this process, I developed and implemented a Leadership Excellence comprehensive tool kit for the Western Region HR leaders which resulted in improved Leadership Index scores and greater Associate satisfaction.

I have authored and delivered many training programs to various groups in my career including regional Train the Trainer sessions to teach others to deliver corporate training programs.  I create custom training specific to individual group needs, as well as facilitate mandated training programs.

I believe in giving back to the community. 

I have a long practice of this personally as well as driving company CSR programs.  My longest community relationship is with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.  Locally, this supports Rady Children’s Hospital.  I have been a part of a two-decade effort with the Marriott Business Council for San Diego County in raising 1.7 million dollars for Rady Children’s Hospital.  I have led various fund-raising activities for the Marriott Business Council in San Diego including The Torch Relay and the Champion’s for Children’s Golf Tournaments. Since 2018, I am a Campaign Steering Committee Member, for Rady Children’s Hospital as a business leader participant in driving a half billion-dollar fundraising campaign for the hospital.  I am also a proud recipient of the Miracle Maker Award (December 2018) and recognized as an Outstanding Business Partner (March 2017) for my personal and professional efforts for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and Rady Children’s Hospital.
